Anatomy of a One-Day Hedge Install

Most residential hedge lines are planted in a single day. Here is the day, hour by hour, so you know exactly what you're buying.

Morning: layout and trench

The crew strings the line from your confirmed takeoff, marks tree positions at spec spacing, and trenches the full run — amending the backfill with compost and gypsum where LA clay demands it. Old hedge or fence removal (if added) happens first, hauled immediately.

Midday: setting trees

Trees come off the truck in order and go in plumb — eyes down the line, not just levels — because a hedge is judged as a single object. Root barrier panels are trenched on the hardscape side before backfill. Boxed trees get staked in pairs.

Afternoon: water, tune, walk

Drip lines are tied in and tested, basins built, the line watered deeply, and every scrap hauled off. Then the walk: you and the crew lead, tree by tree. The balance is only due when you sign off — that is the contract, and California law backs it.
